    Notes
    • Gottlieb was believed to have emigrated to America in 1900, although his Russian-language passport (see below) appears to be dated 1906. Gottlieb was reported to have come from Bledowa, Poland, a village about 26 miles north of Warsaw. He is believed to have come to the U. S. with Leopold Pletz, ancestor of Edna B. Platz (who researched many of these records from St. Matthews Lutheran Church In Jersey City in the 1980's).

Gottlieb is known to have entered the United States in 1902 at the age of 21; he traveled with Karl Fausak (b. 1866) and Eduard Fausak (b 1886). They sailed on the SS Assyria from Hamburg on 7 Mar 1902 and arrived in New York on 22 Mar 1902; their entry is recorded on the manifest available under the misspelled name Tausak at www.ellisisland.org. They were coming to join their brother Julian, who entered the US the preceding year and whose address was 160 2nd Street (believed to be New York). They came with $66 between them and listed their residence as Jonowsk, Poland.

Edward Fausak and Lizzie Neumann were witnesses at Gottlieb and Hulda's marriage in 1904, the first marriage for both. Gotlieb lived at that time at 133 Morris Street, Jersey City NJ. Last name alternately spelled Fausack in records of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Jersey City NJ.

Gottlieb, Hulda, and their son Albert apparently returned to Europe sometime between 1905 and 1910 because their next two children were born in Poland. Both returned (albeit separately) in 1911 (see below).

Ellis Island entry records (www.ellisisland.org) show that Gottlieb Fausach (sic) arrived in New York at the age of 31on 10 July 1911aboard the Niew Amsterdam sailing from Rotterdam on 1 July 1911. He was accompanied by his 19-year old sister Wanda Fausak. He is shown as a baker and she as a "servant girl". Gottlieb's nearest relative is shown as his wife Hulda in Blendowo, Russia, and Wanda's nearest relative as her father Ludwig, also in Blendowo. The destination for both is given as Gottlieb's brother Ludwig (Peter Ludwig) Fausak at 133 Morris Street, Jersey City NJ. Gottlieb was 5'4" tall and Wanda 5' tall. Ottilie Reinsptiz (sic) of Obrenki and Natalia Pletz of Bledowo both arrived on the same vessel.

Gottlieb registered for the WWI military draft in 1918 at the age of 37. At that time he was a self-employed farmer near Leonard Bridge, Lebanon, New London County CT. He gave his birth date as 25 Sep 1880.

The 1920 federal census records show Gottlieb and family residing at 176 Sussex Street, Jersey City NJ. The family comprised Gottlieb (38), Hulda (38), Albert (14), Louis (13), Alfred (11), and William (7). Gottlieb was an oiler at a powerhouse.

The 1930 census (with Fausak misspelled Fausch in the index on Ancestry.com), the family (Gottlieb, Hilda, Lee?, Alfred, and William) were living at 104 Mercer Street, Jersey City NJ; there were several roomers living with the family.

Gotltieb's original passport was in the possession of Raymond A. Fausak in 1997; it was a Russian-language passport issued in Russian Poland showing Gottlieb as German citizen.

Reported in church records to have died of "complications" about 2 weeks after wife's death. Gottlieb was survived by 3 sons.
