Fausak genannt Hoffman, Karl Wilhelm; 1856; entry in the Stammrolle for Neuruppin.
Fausak genannt Hoffman, Karl Wilhelm; 1856; entry in the Stammrolle for Neuruppin.
Karl Wilhelm was born in Breslau (present day Wroclaw, Poland). His parents were not named, but he worked in Neuruppin so he was added to the Neuruppin Stammrolle (military draft register). It may be that he was an illegitimate child and was authorised to use his father's surname, or his mother was married to a Hoffmann after his birth and he was named after his stepfather. Unusually for the time, his surname was spelled without the "c". He appears to have been inducted into the army in 1856, trained, and released to the reserves in 1858.
